Upholding/Enforcing Our Laws

As most of us know, when a person is elected or appointed to an office of PUBLIC TRUST, he or she vows or affirms that he or she will uphold the laws of and defend the state or country in which the person holds office.

My question is this: Have the laws of The United States been broken by not enforcing the immigration statuets that are on the books? My point is that by not enforcing the statuets that we have is the cause of having the large numbers of illegal immigrants that are now in our country. Should those in authority be held accountable for this gross violation of our laws?

What are your thoughts?

I personally think, and this is strictly opinion (I don't have any studies to back this up), that there are so many branches or departments of government operating outside their legal boundaries which in itself would seem to be a violation of law, that when they fail to uphold laws or enforce laws or carry out their law given mission, it is just the norm and nobody cares. We are used to it. It isn't until something happens that all of the sudden it matters. And it seems that even when it matters, prosecution or impeachment or whatever accountability proceedings occur, does it really even ever amount to anything when it is done?

In fact, I believe that if Americans really had any idea how far our country has probably strayed from the intent of the law and constitution set up by the founding fathers, even if the majority demanded change it wouldn't happen. The agencies responsible for enforcing the law probably would now lack the necessary power to make government accountable and bring it inline.

Government has become so big and so involved in people's lives that I think there is a tendency for American's to view government as their savior in way too many matters. It seems they expect government to solve and handle all their problems. These types of attitudes seem like they could be establishing belief systems in people that could help usher in a one world government with a fake savior at the head of it, with people welcoming it wholeheartedly.
